By Decree of his Excellency, Baron Gregorin of Kalona, here are the new laws of his Barony. They are to take effect immediately.


TERMS AND INFORMATION

Person
Races and species of people with nations and homelands recognized by Kalona. Those not on this list are deemed either Constructs, Animals, or Monsters, and are not afforded any legal rights within the Barony.

Lawful Authority
A Lawful Authority is any individual acting upon duties, authority or responsibility given by Baron Gregorin or his representatives. Such Lawful Authorities may include but are not limited to members of the Barony Guard, members of the Gentry Guard, Magistrates and Mayors.

RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES

A Citizen is defined as:
1. A Person born within the borders of Kalona since it's formation; or
2. A Person who resided within the borders of Kalona at it's formation, but was born beforehand; or
3. A Person born abroad to at least one parent who is a citizen of Kalona; or
4. A Person who is granted citizenship status by a member of the Gentry or higher.

A Denizen is defined as:
1. A Person who was born outside of Kalona and has sworn allegiance to this Barony, as well as renounced their previous allegiances; and
2. Had their status as a Denizen approved by a member of the Gentry or higher.

A Visitor is defined as:
1. A Person who was born outside of Kalona and has not sworn allegiance to this Barony; AND
2. Has registered themselves with their local Gentry or authorized personnel; OR
3. Has recently arrived in Kalona and has not had a chance to register but has been here less than 2 months, or has put in reasonable effort to get registered with their local Gentry but has yet been unsuccessful.

An Alien is defined as:
1. A Person who was born outside of Kalona and has not sworn allegiance to this Barony; AND
2. Has NOT registered themselves with their local Gentry or authorized personnel within the 2 month grace period.

A Citizen is offered the following rights and protections:
1. They are offered protection by the law;
2. They are permitted to own land through permission of their local gentry;
3. They are permitted to apply for office, run a guild, and strive for peerage.
4. They cannot be searched, seized, charged, or sentenced without reasonable cause except by a member of the Gentry or higher.

A Denizen is offered the following rights and protections:
1. They are offered protection by the law;
2. They are permitted to participate in local guilds fully, exception being becoming a Guild Master.
3. They cannot be searched, seized, charged, or sentenced without reasonable cause except by a member of the Gentry or higher.
4. They are permitted the right to strive for citizenship, which can only be granted by a member of the Gentry or higher.

A Visitor is offered the following rights and protections:
1. They are offered protection by the law;
2. They are permitted to participate in local guilds, though guilds may choose to restrict how much influence they can gain.
3. They cannot be charged, or sentenced without reasonable cause except by a member of the Gentry or higher. They can be captured and searched without reasonable cause by a Lawful Authority.

An Alien is offered the following rights and protections:
1. They are offered protection by the law.
2. They can be captured, searched, charged, and sentenced without reasonable cause by a Lawful Authority.

The Liberties of Law Enforcement:
Lawful Authorities can enforce the law by any means provided it does not override the rights of the Person, dependent on their Citizenship status.
That liberty is bestowed upon the Crimson Justice Bounty Hunter's Guild and Guild Arcane, provided it falls within the purview of their Guild Law.
No Lawful Authority has the right to sentence a Denizen or Citizen in Kalona. This right is reserved to the Gentry or higher.
Nobility always have the right to capture, search, charge, and sentence any Person without cause, though may be subject to review by those of higher status.
Anyone, Lawful Authority or otherwise, can thwart a law being broken in their midst by appropriate means, subject to review. Any resistance by the lawbreaker grants permission of execution by witnesses.

LAWS OF THE BARONY

The following crimes are punishable by fines, incarceration and other measures, including exile, loss of citizenship and/or Final Death. The sentence decided upon and delivered shall be that which is judged appropriate to the severity of the crime.

Treason
Any act of lack thereof which attempts to undermine the Lawful Authority or subvert the Laws of the Land.

Murder
Acts of violence, or aid in committing acts of violence that result in the death of a Person.

Assault
Acts of violence, or aid in committing acts of violence that result in the harm (but not death) of a Person.

Banditry
The assault of a Person with intent to gain unlawful possession of property.

Theft
The unlawful possession of property, or the unlawful acquisition of property without causing bodily harm to its rightful owner, or the act of breaking and entering.

Slavery
The possession or trafficking a Person as a slave, or the enslavement of Persons.

Necromantic Magic
The knowledge, casting or instruction of Necromantic Magics.

Chaos Magic
The knowledge, casting or instructing of Chaos Magics.

Profane Worship
The worship of dark deities whose tenants require foul, illegal or treasonous acts, including Kagent, Necros and Sirethe.

Mind-Controlling Magics and Chemicals
The use of spells and alchemies which produce the effects of Charm, Dominate, Euphoria or Forget.

Deadly Substances
The possession of any toxic chemical which is capable of directly causing death, including Poison.

Explosives
The possession of a device or alchemical globe that can produce an explosion of flame, acid or other dangerous substance.

Assassins Tools
Items primarily designed for use in murder or silent, quick attacks by surprise, including Garrotes and Stilettos.

Obstructing Authority
Any action or lack thereof which causes interference in the actions of a Lawful Authority.

Other actions deemed endangering to public safety or property, including but not limited to the offering of unlawful bounties, are forbidden.

NOBLE LAW OF GREGORIN’S LAND

Law of Responsibility:
Depending on the individual noble status, you must adhere to certain responsibilities of those beneath you.

Baron:
As the leader of the entire Barony, the Baron is subject to the most responsibilities. They ensure to the best of their ability that all inhabitants of their lands are safe, happy, and healthy. This includes the following:
a) Defending the borders from invaders and adversaries through a standing army.
b) Enforcing the law within the borders to upkeep organization and safety.
c) To acquire taxes, and spend them accordingly to pay for this protection, and solve various issues that will arise amongst the people.
d) Organize their lands such that they are utilized to their full potential of resources and strategic advantages.

A Baron represents all of the people within their lands, and as such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, and Fair.


Chancellor:
This is the personal messenger of the Baron. While they do not have any individual responsibility, their word and actions is always spoken on behalf of the Baron, and as such they are to be respected.

A Chancellor represents the Baron directly, and as such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, and Fair.


Lord and Lady:
These individuals have been either through right of Birth or designated by their Baron to rule over a part of the Barony lands. They are to manage on a smaller scale the same responsibilities of the Baron. This includes the following:
a) Defending the borders from invaders and adversaries through organization of the local Guard.
b) Enforcing the law within their lands to upkeep organization and safety.
c) To acquire taxes on behalf of the Baron, spending some on the lands they are ordained to protect, and pay tithe to their Baron.
d) Organize their lands such that they are utilized to their full potential of resources and strategic advantages.
e) To promote and uphold the ideals of the Baron and the Barony.

A Lord or Lady represents all of the people within their lands, and as such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, and Fair.


Count and Countess:
A Count or Countess is of the same status as a Lord or Lady, but instead of managing lands, they are the head of a noble household and must manage its reputation within. These responsibilities include:
a) Managing their House with dignity and respect.
b) To ensure that their House is administrated wisely.
c) To be a strong representative of the Barony.

A Count of Countess represents all of the people within their House and by its extension the Barony, and as such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, and Fair.


Knight:
A Knight is given the task of protecting the lands of a Barony, Lord or Lady, Count or Countess. These responsibilities include:
a) To be well trained and constantly improving in the skills of warfare.
b) To be well rendered, and practice proper etiquette.
c) To protect the weak, and fight for the welfare of all, and the Barony.

A Knight represents and protects the ideals of the Barony as a whole, and as such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, Fair, and Chivalric.


Magistrate:
A Magistrate hold the same rank as a Knight, but are not practiced in the art of warfare. A Magistrate is delegated by a Lord or Lady to interpret and enforce the law by being learned. These responsibilities Include:
a) To represent themselves and their superiors with dignity and respect.
b) To fulfill their delegated duties wisely.
c) To be a strong representative of the Barony.

A Magistrate enforces the ideals of the Barony as a whole, and by its extension the Barony. As such they are to be Wise, Honourable, Courageous, Generous, and Fair.

Note: Both Knights and Magistrates are members of the Gentry. Members of a Noble House usually by birth or marriage but are not Counts or Countesses are also Gentry.
